I have been an independent translator, editor, and proofreader from English into German since 1994. I specialize in software localization, websites, computer hardware and peripherals, computerized business applications and general technical translations.

We still need human translators!

 

So you think you can save some money by skipping the human translator and using machine translation instead? Well, think twice, if you don't want to look like a complete fool!

 

Here is a simple text in German a friend of mine sent me:

 

"Liebe Christa. Nun, wie geht es dir? Bald bist du ja wieder am Packen und wir können uns mündlich unterhalten. Du hast sicher erfahren, wie verrückt bei uns das Wetter spielt. Ich fliege am Donnerstag zu meiner Tochter, um Kinder zu hüten. Ich werde ziemlich beschäftigt sein, aber ich freue mich auch darauf. Also, bis bald und liebe Grüße."

 

Here is the "translation" by Google into something similar to English:
